LCCPS  IS  NOW  ACCEPTING  APPLICATIONS FOR 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th GRADES, 2010-2011  SCHOOL  YEAR

If a student is absent, it is VERY IMPORTANT that parents/guardians call LCCPS at 978-323-0800 before 8:15 a.m. to report the absence. If the telephone line is busy, please leave a message in the school’s general voice mailbox stating the student’s name, grade, teacher, your name and relationship, the reason for the absence and the expected number of days the student will be absent.

You should know that the Commonwealth of Massachusetts allows schools to go to court with families whose children miss school seven (7) times without a valid excuse, within a six (6) month period. Students who are late for school 14 times, without a valid excuse, will be followed up on by staff because, just as with multiple absences, they too are at risk of failing. Because school attendance is so important, we keep a close watch to see which students miss school, and we will contact you if we need to talk to you about your child/ren’s absences.

If absences or tardiness are excessive, we may:

1) refer you to the Principal,
2) visit your home,
3) refer you to the court system,
4) assign the student to Saturday School,
5) require After-School attendance until 4:30 for grades K through 3, or 5 PM for grades 4 through 8, or
6) see that the student is not promoted to the next grade.

Parents and students who do go to court may request to have parts of the student’s record interpreted by a qualified professional of the school, or may invite anyone else of their choosing to inspect or interpret the record with them.
