The Board of Trustees of Lowell Community Charter Public School (LCCPS) announces the selection of Ms. Diana Lam as Interim Head of School, starting on July 1, 2016. Ms. Lam brings more than 40 years of educational experience in both district and charter school management to LCCPS, where she is expected to serve for up to one year.

Ms. Lam comes to LCCPS from Conservatory Lab Charter School in Boston, where she has just retired as Head of School after eight years.  During her career, she has served as a superintendent for districts in Providence, Rhode Island, Dubuque, Iowa.  Ms. Lam was also named Massachusetts Superintendent of the Year for her work in Chelsea in the 90s.  She was also the first female Superintendent in San Antonio, TX where she won national acclaim for her accomplishments, including a dramatic increase in student achievement.

She is a leader in the Boston Compact, which brings together district, charter, and parochial schools to provide equitable access to high-performing schools and excellent instruction for all students.  Ms. Lam also helped found the Margarita Muñiz Academy, Boston’s first dual-language public high school.  In addition to this extensive experience, Ms. Lam has served in senior educational leadership positions in New York City and elsewhere.

As an immigrant to the United States, Ms. Lam has a breadth of perspective and experience.  Her passion for educating the whole child and encouraging children to become lifelong learners resonated deeply with the Board of Trustees at LCCPS.

During her time at LCCPS, Ms. Lam will work closely with the Board of Trustees and the school’s leadership team; overseeing the academic program, managing operations and assisting in the search for a permanent Head of School.

The Board is confident that Ms. Lam will work to maintain the high academic standards and to ensure ongoing stability for our students, faculty, staff and families.
